In January 1952 this B-17 crashed while on a search and rescue mission. They were flying in a blizzard and had instruments that failed. They hit a tree at the peak of the mountain, and crashed. The plane then slid and tumbled 2000 feet down the mountain while on fire. 5 of the 8 crew members survived.
